Construction Inspector

Job Summary

Construction inspectors assure that the appropriate construction is completed in compliance with plans, standards, specifications, special requirements, codes and regulations. Uses excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, clients and all members of the general public. Performs routine semi-skilled and technical construction inspection work for a variety of projects, including but not limited to transportation, water/wastewater, development, and building construction/rehabilitation. Resolves conflicts within scope of authority. Compiles information and prepares construction reports as required. Performs work in accordance with safety policies and procedures. Maintains a variety of detailed logs and records related to employees, work assignments and inspection activities. Performs sampling and testing services as needed.

Core Responsibilities

• Supervise quality control elements at job sites
• Operate motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the company
• Inspect and approval all phases of construction and improvement work
• Keeps detailed records of all work activities and submits reports on a daily basis
• Inspects to assure compliance with local, state or Federal standards
• Material sampling and testing
• Maintain good working relationships

Qualifications

• High school Diploma or equivalency Required
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record Required
• Ability to become ACI-certified within 90 days of employment Required
• Two years experience with construction techniques and/or inspector work Preferred
• Continuing education in civil engineering, construction or relate field Preferred
• Familiar with Word, Excel, e-mail and internet Required

Physical Requirements

Work Schedule & Travel

Standard hours are 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and/or weekend based on project deadlines. Travel approximately 75% of the time. Fewer than 10% of travel will require overnight stays.

Conditions of Employment

Candidates must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, permanent residence, or authorization to work. M.C. Ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam within 6 months of employment. Ability to be licensed in Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota within the first 2-4 years of employment.
