Material Testing Technician

Job Summary

A testing technician ensures that construction is completed in compliance with plans, standards, specifications, special requirements, codes, and regulations. Will perform routine semi-skilled and technical material testing, sample collection, and observation work for a variety of projects, including but not limited to fresh concrete testing, soil compaction testing, pavement coring, rebar inspection, and concrete relative humidity testing. Conduct routine laboratory testing of concrete cylinders, soil and aggregate samples, and asphalt. Exhibit excellent customer service skills, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, clients, and all members of the general public. Compile information and promptly prepare testing reports as required. Perform lab and field work in strict accordance with established test methods and safety policies. Keep vehicle and testing equipment clean and well-maintained. Keep a variety of detailed logs and records related to time allotment, work assignments, and testing activities/results. Resolve conflicts within the scope of authority. Assist other departments and with general office duties as needed.

Core Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Engineers, Surveyors, Draftsmen, Administrative Support, Clients, Contractors, and regulatory agencies
• Supervise and provide testing for quality control elements at job sites
• Operate motor vehicles to assist in carrying business tasks
• Collect and test material samples according to specifications and certifying agencies
• Keep detailed records of all work activities and submit reports on a daily basis
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and/or federal standards
• Maintain good working relationships

Qualifications

• High school Diploma or equivalency Required
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record Required
• Ability to become ACI and Troxler certified within 90 days of employment Required
• Familiar with Word, Excel, e-mail and internet Required
• Two years experience with construction techniques and/or inspector work Preferred

Physical Requirements

Work Schedule & Travel

Standard hours are 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and/or weekend based on project deadlines. Travel approximately 75% of the time. Fewer than 5% of travel will require overnight stays.

Conditions of Employment

Ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam within 6 months of employment. Ability to become licensed in Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota within the first 2-4 years of employment.
